Mallik, Kumudranjan (1883-1970) poet and teacher, was born on 3 March 1883 in the district of Burdwan, son of Purnachandra Mallik. Kumudranjan passed the BA examination in 1905 with distinction and was awarded the Bankimchandra Gold Medal by Calcutta University. He started his career as a teacher in Mathrun High School at Burdwan and retired from this school as headmaster in 1938. kazi nazrul islam was his student in this school.



Kumudranjan Mallik is counted as one of the major poets who were influenced by rabindranath tagore. His poems are inspired by vaisnavism and the countryside. His works include Ujani (1911), Banatulsi (1911), Shatadal (1911), Ektara (1914), Bithi (1915), Banamallika (1918), Nupur (1920), Rajanigandha (1921), Ajay (1927), Tunir ((1928), Svarnasandhya (1948) etc. He was awarded the Jagattarini Gold Medal and the Padmashri by the Government of India.
