Ramamala Granthagar one of the oldest libraries of the country, founded by Maheshchandra Bhattacharya in 1912 in Comilla town. It began as the library of Iswar Pathsala Tol, named after the father of Maheshchandra. Later on, it was greatly expanded through the efforts of Dr Rashmohan Chakravarty and Maheshchandra Bhattacharya.
The library has played a significant role in the study of sanskrit, collecting and preserving ancient manuscripts and also publishing Sanskrit books. It has a large collection of about 15000 manuscripts, including 8000 Sanskrit manuscripts. Among the books published by the library are Shri Shri Chandi, Rahasyatrayamala, Atisha Dipankara Shrijnana. It has also published a list of its holding in two volumes. The library has become an important research centre with its collection of books on different faiths like hinduism, buddhism, christianity, islam and jainism. [Rabindra Nath Sarker]
